📢 Call for papers "Intellectuals, Political Movements, and Popular Protagonism in Contemporary Latin America" 📢
Organized by Dr Mariana Bruce (NEC-UFF) and Dr Rafael Araujo (UERJ) in the journal Outros Tempos, submissions will be accepted until April 30, 2025.
The aim of this dossier is to gather works that discuss the participation of intellectuals, social movements, and political parties in the various ongoing processes of transformation in Contemporary Latin America. Since the late 1990s, the continent has been a stage for a set of experiences that have challenged the hegemonic order, with varying degrees of radicality, pointing to multiple possibilities for reinventing or rewriting history, starting from a popular protagonism that is ever-renewing and re-existing. After the end of the Cold War and with the crisis of real socialism, other formulas have been re-edited to continue sowing hope, whether in the realm of ideas and ideological formulations, or from the perspective of political experiences themselves, sustaining Latin America as a territory of centuries-old oppressions and inequalities, but also of possibilities for imagining other possible worlds.
