COMMUNITY OUTREACH

Ongoing

Research and community engagement initiatives of the Center for Contemporary Studies, fostering dialogue between academia and civil society.

PROJECT 1

Paths to Buen Vivir under the Political Radar

Bolivian Aymara sociologist Silvia Rivera Cusicanqui draws attention to the power of community actions that operate “bajo el radar político" [under the political radar]. The Teia de Solidariedade da Zona Oeste (TeiaZO) is an example of these forms of articulation: made up of women, it was consolidated in March 2020 to confront hunger during the pandemic and to strengthen food sovereignty, urban agriculture, and agroecology in the region. This community outreach project promotes the circulation of knowledge between the university and TeiaZO through the recording, documentation, and valorization of its practices, experiences, and forms of knowledge.

PROJECT 2

Indigenize, Quilombize, and TRANSform Fluminense Federal University

The project seeks to contribute to the indigenization and quilombization of Fluminense Federal University, promoting initiatives aimed at the admission, retention, and leadership of Indigenous peoples, quilombola communities, and trans people within the university. Among its initiatives, it plans to create a Memorial of Re-Existence and Buen Vivir, including a community space, a specialized collection, and cultural and academic activities aimed at valuing Indigenous and quilombola knowledge, cultures, and experiences. The project also seeks to strengthen retention policies, expand intercultural dialogue, and foster debates on epistemic pluralism within the university community.
