Professor of History of the Americas at Fluminense Federal University (UFF), she is coordinator of the Center for Contemporary Studies and a permanent faculty member of the Graduate Program in History (PPGH/UFF) and ProfHistória. She holds a PhD, an MA, and a BA in History from UFF.
She was awarded first place in the PRONEX Award – Historical Culture and Uses of the Past (Theses and Dissertations) and is the author of Estado e Democracia nos Tempos de Hugo Chávez (1998–2013) (FGV, 2016). She worked for more than ten years as a History and Sociology teacher in primary and secondary education, in both public and private schools.
Her research focuses on Latin American History, with an emphasis on relations between power and society. Her work addresses topics such as intellectual history, the history of the present, the state, social movements — Indigenous and popular — Indigenous intellectuals, Epistemologies of the South, Buen Vivir, revolution, nationalism, plurinationalism, grassroots territorial organizations, and participatory democracy.
